Mirifica ([et] amo sarah mirifica), wall section from the bedroom of King Mendax. c. 800 CE. Blue-grey breccia and dressed fieldstone, gold leaf and polychrome, 96.5 x 98.4 cm (38 x 60.5"). Courtesy of the Gallery of Modern Antiquities, London.
This wall fragment shows section of the marble border that ran around the periphery of Mendax's bedroom and private chambers. The entire quote is lost but some sections and fragments survived; from these it appears to be quote from a poem or song. The marble border ran 1.30 m above the floor.
