Cathedral Triptych B (mosaic: [e]cce signum De[us]; marble: [Aug]usto Germanico Dacio) Wall section from cathedral. Mosaic, with gold tesseræ, and marble held with bronze lozenge-shaped clips. c. 1240 CE/101CE. Dressed fieldstone, yellow sienna marble, bronze, gold, grey breccia marble, 68 x 165 cm (27 x 65"). Courtesy of the Museum of Modern Antiquities Southwest.

The Cathedral was built over an earlier Roman Triumphal Arch; this section of wall connects the Emperor Trajan with Tirguæ, deep in the heartland of Dacia. Trajan's diary of the Dacian Campaign was thought lost to time; the arch substrate lists his accomplishments at the military outpost and trading centre of Tirguæ at the far eastern edge of the Roman Empire not previously known.
